Residence -Biome

Residence for Madhavi and Srihari

This is a modern home with a difference---not by it being ecological but by being an all inclusive kind of living.
Srihari and Madhavi trouped in with their four children one day and they said they wanted a large house.
Looking at the number of children we assumed its a large house since they would need bedrooms for each kid or thereof but no it was not so. A large house was needed besides the immediate family for the parents of both the spouses. Which we felt to be unique in this time of "Dink" families and that was a real nice design challenge. The house has a large basement for kids play/music and study area , which gets sky lit while being visually connected to the whole house.
the ground floor houses a guest bedroom with large living dining and kitchen areas. The ground floor is then connected to a small bed/study /veranda/toilet apartment with a court in between to the one of the parents' residence. At the first floor is Madhavi and Srihari's room which is interconnected to childrens' bedroom. At this level a bridge with a small kitchenette connects to another of parents' apartment.
The house is built with stabilized mud blocks, harvests rain for all year long cooking and drinking purpose , treats its waste water for gardening purpose and is totally day lit as well as naturally ventilated.
The stairs to the basement are raison d'etre of the house. They are green in colour curved and are seen from all the levels.
The home is designed by Monalika and Devyani and built by Sunil Kumar.
