Residence - Biome

Parthasarathy residence

With seven coconut trees and four cheeku trees on site , this house ,on northern edge of Bangalore, was a retirement home for Mr.Parthasarthy who was a very nice person with lots of things to talk about :) .site , this house ,on northern edge of Bangalore, was a retirement home for Mr.Parthasarthy who is a very nice person with lots of things to talk about :) .The house had to be a gathering place for family and friends to spend lots of their time amidst greens .But at the same time the bedroom had to be a secluded unit to spend time alone even when there are people around.
We started with a jagli area as an entrance foyer which guided to the central living area opening into the internal court.A little skew to the bedroom space disjointed it from the main house and gave a three side view and ventilation to the bedroom. An attached library was given in the bedroom to make it a self contained unit as per requirements.
Vault in the living area and soccer dome in the bedroom add upto the volume of the spaces thus takes the hot air up making the living zone comfortable.
The flooring was done in green oxide and clay tiles with built in furnitures as bed and book shelves for library which also provided a transition space between the living area and the master bedroom.
The landscape played an important role for the house which had various herbs , fruits and vegetable garden at the rear and built in seats and low height flowering plants for the music area in the front. To mark the boundaries of the site only hedge has been used.
Natural light and ventilation reduce the power consumption without compromising on the comfortability factors. The house also harvests the rain water and treat the waster water through the reed bed with a small chappadi bridge over the polishing tank.
Design credit to Devyani, Chitra and Lavannya and Mr. Sunil Kumar for construction.
